What to expect on my follow-up visits?
Follow-up visits will last 45 to 90 minutes. Depending on your condition and status, you may need to be seen in our clinic anywhere from 1 to 3 times per week. We will evaluate your progress and adjust your treatment plan as necessary to optimize your healing process. We will make every attempt to keep all of your appointments with the same physical therapist in order to establish consistency in your plan of care. During subsequent sessions, your visit may overlap with another patient, but in no way will this hinder your path to recovery, as you will receive the physical therapists utmost attention. COR Sports strives to give patients the highest quality of care and personalized attention
What if I miss my appointment?
Consistent attendance to physical therapy is an essential aspect to your treatment plan. If you know in advance you will be unable to make an appointment, please call as soon as possible to reschedule. We ask for at least 24 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee and to allow other patients the opportunity to take advantage of the available appointment. For appointments missed without appropriate notice, there will be a charge of $25.
Do I need a Physician referral or script?
New York State law, as of November 2006, allows patients to be treated and evaluated by trained experienced license physical therapist without the referral of physician. This is referred to as Direct Access. There are many insurance plans that allow you up to several weeks of direct access with a physical therapist before a prescription are ever required. If you would like to be evaluated and treated before visiting the physician it is your right and we welcome you. We are required to discuss your insurance coverage with you upon the initial visit.
Will the Physical Therapist speak with my doctor?
In order to provide the best possible care, COR Sports make every attempt to keep the lines of communication open between our staff, your referring physician(s) and/or your healthcare team with your consent. In addition to providing your physician with the results of our initial evaluation, we can provide your progress reports at regular intervals.
How long does physical therapy take?
No one person is the same as another, as is any injury. We at COR Sports treat each person and patient on a case by case basis, and no treatment is identical to another. Some patients may need to attend physical therapy from several weeks to several months until your condition resolves and/or you can be discharged from our care. Home exercise programs will be prescribed for you to follow at the initial visit, and we vigorously encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns you might have at anytime during the course of your treatment.
How do I know when I am ready for discharge from physical therapy?
This is a difficult and tricky question, but very common. We at COR Sports do not follow the insurance guidelines for discontinuation of care, but instead prefer to have our team and YOU our patient decide when you are ready to return to your desired level. We encourage our patients to be at their optimal level of performance and comfort before discharge. One of the goals of COR Sports is to bridge that gap between the discharge of physical therapy or loss of coverage of insurance and the return to everyday life or return to sport activity at any level.
Does my insurance cover physical therapy?
That is a very common and important question today. In most cases we participate with the majority of insurance companies that may cover you. Our staff will call your insurance company and obtain authorization and verify your coverage prior to your first visit if we have all of the appropriate information. This will allow you and us to know exactly what your coverage is before starting your recovery program.
